The slicing is made perpendicular to the annual growth rings of the tree.



Crown cut
Slicing across at a half of a log, tangential cut

Continuous cut around the log; various methods

Matching

Slip matching
Veneer leaves are taken from a trimmed bundle and joined in sequence. (asymmetrical pattern).




Book matching
Alternating pieces of veneer from a trimmed bundle are flipped over so they face each other (symmetrical pattern).




Plank matching
Veneers from several bundles are put together at random to stimulate lumber planking.
