Güteschutzgemeinschaft Sperrholz (Plywood Quality Association)
Quality monitoring for plywood has a long tradition. As early as the late 50s,
producers combined under the umbrella of RAL to form the Güteschutzgemeinschaft
Sperrholz e.V. which was renamed Qualitätsgemeinschaft Sperrholz e.V.
in late 2004. There is a differentiation in quality monitoring between “Plywood
for general purposes (DIN 68705, Part 2)” and “Safety-relevant veneered plywood
for building purposes (DIN 68705, Part 3 and 5)”.

The Blue Angel
Benefits for the environment and health:
- No dangerous emissions of hazardous substances
- Use of wood from sustainable forestry and recovered wood
- Free from organohalogen compounds
Can wood be detrimental to health? Harmful substances from the binders in
chipboard and other materials may be released into the room air. This may lead
to mucosal irritation to the eyes and nose as well as irritation of the throat, feeling
unwell, headache and breathing difficulties. Wood-based materials with the
Blue Angel are low-emission.
